New Digital Visa Services

Earlier this year the Home Office has awarded Sopra Steria a £91m contract to develop a digital visa and immigration service in the UK. The new system goes live today.

Time will tell but we are promised new, streamlined services, allowing customers in the UK to submit applications quickly and securely through a simpler journey. New services, for example, will include:

  • A modernised digital process to submit evidence and personal information, allowing applicants to retain their passports and other documents;
  • Self-service with the ability to make applications and upload evidence from home; and
  • More flexible on-demand mobile application services.

New so-called "UK VCAS Service Points" will open their doors from the next week and by the end of November 2018 customers should have access to 57 locations throughout the UK, including London, Wakefield, Cambridge, Coventry, Reading, Hemel Hempstead, Brighton, Portsmouth, Canterbury, Aberdeen etc.

The customers will continue to have choice between current 'free' services (meaning payment of the Home Office fees and cost of biometric enrolment) and new extra services enabling them to get decisions faster and, hopefully, without extra hustle. For example, Priority Service will increase chances of getting a decision within 10 working days and with Super Priority Service an applicant might even get a decision on the next working day following a biometric appointment. No guarantees, of course.

Customers in the UK seeking to remain in the UK or to settle permanently on most of the routes will be eligible to use the new service from w/c 05 November 2018. We will monitor closely new services and centres and publish more updates shortly.
